The Department of Meteorology states that showers or thundershowers may occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Southern and Northwestern provinces today (12).
Heavy rains exceeding 100 mm may occur at some places in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in the Nuwara Eliya, Kandy, Galle and Matara districts.
It is also stated that several spells of rain are possible in the Northern Province and Anuradhapura District.
Strong winds of about (50-60) kmph are possible at times in the western slopes of the Central Hills, the Northern, North-Central, Western, Sabaragamuwa, Northwestern and Southern provinces and the Trincomalee district.
The Department of Meteorology kindly requests the public to take the necessary steps to minimize the dangers caused by temporary strong winds and lightning that may occur with thunderstorms.
