Police officer injured by accidentally discharged firearm

A police officer was injured and hospitalized after a firearm was accidentally discharged at the Ambalangoda Police Station this afternoon (24).

The person injured was a constable who had come to report for duty. After reporting for duty, he was checking his firearm when it suddenly went off.

It is said that he was shot in one of his legs.

He was later admitted to the Balapitiya Base Hospital for treatment in a police car.

However, hospital sources said that his condition is not serious.
