Decision on Salaries of Suspended Judges

Published:

The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has decided to pay half-salaries to judges who have been suspended from duty, while withholding several allowances that they are normally entitled to, according to reports.

It is stated that a circular regarding this decision has been issued to all High Court Judges by the Secretary to the Judicial Service Commission, Prasanna Alwis.

The JSC recently suspended several judges over various allegations and determined that they would be paid half of their basic salaries during the suspension period.

The matter of allowances payable to these suspended judges was taken up for discussion at a meeting of the Audit and Management Committee of the Ministry of Justice and National Integration.

Following the discussion, the committee decided that only the professional allowance, personal allowance, cost of living allowance, and language allowance should be included in the half-salary payment.

It was further decided that other benefits — including telephone, vehicle, driver, book, housing rent, appeal, and fuel allowances — should not be paid to the suspended judges.
