The Department of Meteorology says that showers or thundershowers are likely to occur in many parts of the island after around 1:00 p.m. today.
Heavy rainfall exceeding 50 mm can be expected in some areas of the Northern, North-Central, Eastern, Central, and Uva Provinces.
The Department also noted that showers or thundershowers were experienced in parts of the Western Province, as well as in the districts of Galle, Matara, Puttalam, Jaffna, and Trincomalee during the morning hours.
The public has been advised to take necessary precautions to minimize the risks posed by lightning and temporary strong winds associated with thundershowers.
