Expert Committee Appointed to Establish Independent Prosecutor’s Office

In a move aimed at strengthening Sri Lanka’s justice system, the government has appointed an expert committee to lay the groundwork for the establishment of an Independent Prosecutor’s Office.

According to the Ministry of Justice and National Integration, a discussion with the committee members was held yesterday (01) under the leadership of Minister of Justice Harshana Nanayakkara.

The meeting focused on preparing the initial framework and plans required for setting up the office. Once the preliminary concept paper is drafted, public opinion and feedback from civil society organizations will be sought, the ministry stated.

Those who participated in the discussion included Supreme Court Judge President’s Counsel Yasantha Kodagoda, Attorney General President’s Counsel Parinda Ranasinghe, and President of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka, Attorney-at-Law Rajeev Amarasuriya, among others.
