A serious accident occurred in the Sorabora 1 Kanuwa area along the Mahiyanganaya–Giradurukotte main road last night (26), when a van carrying a group of pilgrims veered off the road and collided with a tree.
The accident took place at around 11:00 p.m. Eleven passengers sustained injuries and were admitted to the Mahiyanganaya and Badulla hospitals.
Reports indicate that the group, residents of the Badulla area, had been returning from Anuradhapura at the time of the incident. Six of the injured are currently receiving treatment at the Badulla Hospital, while the remaining five are being treated at the Mahiyanganaya Hospital.
