Heavy Showers Expected in Several Areas Today

The Department of Meteorology has announced that intermittent showers can be expected today (24) in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North-Western Provinces, as well as in the Galle, Matara, Kandy, and Nuwara Eliya districts.

According to the Department, certain areas may experience heavy rainfall exceeding 50 millimeters.

In addition, showers or thundershowers are likely to occur in isolated places in the Uva Province and in the Ampara and Batticaloa districts after around 2.00 p.m.

Strong winds of about 30–40 km/h are also expected at times over the western slopes of the Central Hills, and in the Central, Northern, North-Central, and North-Western Provinces, as well as in the Trincomalee and Hambantota districts.

The Department of Meteorology has further urged the public to take necessary precautions to minimize risks associated with lightning and temporary strong winds that may accompany thundershowers.
