ICC Files Criminal Charges Against Former Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte

Published:

The International Criminal Court (ICC) has filed charges against former Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte, now 80 years old, over alleged crimes committed during his controversial “War on Drugs” campaign.

According to ICC Deputy Prosecutor Mame Mandiaye Niang, Duterte is accused of being a “co-perpetrator” in the extrajudicial killings of tens of thousands of people carried out by police and other actors during his presidency.

The charges stem from widespread reports that suspects were executed without trial as part of the nationwide anti-drug operation.

The ICC has formally filed three separate charges against Duterte in connection with these alleged crimes.
