The Department of Meteorology has announced that showers or thundershowers may occur at times today (19) in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Northern, and North-Western Provinces, as well as in the Galle and Matara districts.
In the Eastern and Uva Provinces, and in the Hambantota District, showers or thundershowers are expected in some areas, particularly after around 1:00 p.m.
Heavy rainfall exceeding 50 mm is likely in certain locations within the Western and Sabaragamuwa Provinces, and in the Galle and Matara districts.
Strong winds of about 30–40 km/h may also be experienced at times in the western slopes of the Central Hills, and in the North-Central, North-Western, Trincomalee, and Hambantota districts.
The public is advised to take necessary precautions to minimize the risks associated with temporary strong winds and lightning that may accompany thundershowers.
