Court of Appeal to Reconsider Udaya Gammanpila’s Petition on September 24

Published:

The Court of Appeal has ordered that the petition filed by former Minister Udaya Gammanpila be taken up for further consideration on the 24th of this month.

Gammanpila has filed the petition seeking an order to prevent the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) from arresting him, citing provisions of the United Nations Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) Act.

The order was issued by the Court of Appeal bench after considering a request made on behalf of Gammanpila by President’s Counsel Manohara de Silva.

However, the CID had earlier informed the Court of Appeal that no decision had been made to arrest Gammanpila at this stage.
