Showers Expected in Several Areas This Evening

Published:

The Department of Meteorology has forecast showers in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North-Western provinces, as well as in the districts of Galle, Matara, Kandy, and Nuwara Eliya today (14).

In the Eastern and Uva provinces, showers or thundershowers are likely to occur at several places after 1.00 p.m. The department has urged the public to take necessary precautions to minimize the risks associated with temporary strong winds and lightning that may accompany thundershowers.

Meanwhile, a few showers may occur in the coastal areas from Colombo to Galle and Matara. Winds are expected to blow from the south-west at speeds of around 30–40 km/h.

The wind speed may increase at times up to 50–60 km/h in the sea areas off the coast extending from Matara to Hambantota and Pottuvil. Similarly, winds may occasionally strengthen up to about 50 km/h in the sea areas extending from Kankasanthurai to Puttalam, Colombo, and Galle, down to Matara.

The sea areas off the coast from Matara to Hambantota and Pottuvil are expected to be rough at times, while the sea areas from Kankasanthurai to Puttalam, Colombo, and Galle down to Matara may become fairly rough on occasion, the Department of Meteorology added.
