President Meets Governors and Chief Secretaries to Discuss Development Coordination

Published:

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake emphasized the need for close coordination between the central government and provincial administrative institutions to ensure the effective implementation of development projects.

Highlighting that the previous practice of using provincial authorities for political control has been ended under the current government, the President stressed the importance of unified action between the central and provincial administrations to advance the nation’s development agenda.

The President issued these directives during a meeting at the Presidential Secretariat yesterday (11) afternoon, which focused on addressing existing issues between the central government and provincial administrations, reviewing projects under the 2025 provincial budget allocations, and preliminary discussions regarding the 2026 budget.

He further instructed governors and chief secretaries to implement foreign loan- and aid-funded projects within the existing administrative structures, rather than creating separate special project offices, in order to minimize administrative costs, ensure timely completion, and deliver project benefits directly to the public.

Attention was also given to strengthening the school system, with the President urging officials to conduct in-depth assessments at the regional level and present optimal solutions to ensure that all children receive quality education.
