Fitness Certificate Made Mandatory 48 Hours Before Operation of Long-Distance Buses and Vans

Published:

All long-distance passenger buses and vans will now be required to obtain a basic fitness certificate at least 48 hours before commencing operations.

Speaking to the media, Minister Bimal Ratnayake stated that the decision was taken based on six key factors and will apply to all vehicles traveling distances of more than 100 kilometers.

The requirement will not be limited to regular passenger buses but will also cover tour buses, special service buses, and vans transporting between 10 to 20 passengers.

The minister further clarified that the inspections are not large-scale technical evaluations but will instead focus on essential safety checks, including tires, side mirrors, and braking systems.
