Construction Begins on Siyambalanduwa “Rividhanavi” Solar Power Park

Published:

Siyambalanduwa, Monaragala – Construction of Sri Lanka’s largest renewable energy project, the “Rividhanavi” Solar Power Park in Siyambalanduwa, officially commenced this morning (September 6), under the patronage of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.

The project is a key milestone in the country’s journey toward achieving its national target of generating 70% of electricity from renewable sources by 2030.

With a planned capacity of 100 megawatts (MW), the solar park is expected to contribute approximately 219 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of clean energy annually to the national grid. This contribution comes in the context of Sri Lanka’s current annual electricity consumption, which ranges between 15,000 and 16,000 GWh.

The US$140 million investment will be developed across approximately 500 acres of land in the Siyambalanduwa–Kottiyagala area of the Monaragala District. The project has been fully approved by relevant authorities, with the Sustainable Energy Authority providing the project site, access roads, and all required clearances to the investor.

The Rividhanavi Solar Power Park represents a significant advancement in the nation’s energy transition, reducing dependence on fossil fuels and strengthening the resilience and sustainability of Sri Lanka’s power sector.

Further updates on the project timeline, operational milestones, and grid integration strategies are expected in the coming months.
