The motion passed in Parliament to remove Deshabandu Tennakoon from the post of IGP has been forwarded to the President by Speaker Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne.
One member of parliament abstained from voting.
Accordingly, the Speaker informed the House that in terms of Section 17 of the Removal of Officers (Procedure) Act, No. 5 of 2002, the resolution to remove IGP Deshabandu Tennakoon from the post of IGP was passed by a majority of 177 votes, that is, a majority of the total number of MPs, including the absent MPs.
