Foreign reports state that Hamas has agreed to accept the first phase of the U.S. peace plan for Gaza after American President Donald Trump issued a final ultimatum to the group.
Accordingly, Hamas has consented to release all remaining hostages captured during the October 7, 2023, attack. President Trump has also ordered Israel to suspend airstrikes on the Gaza Strip in line with the peace initiative.
In response, the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu released a brief statement affirming that Israel would work with the United States in support of “Trump’s peace plan.”
Posting on his Truth Social platform yesterday (3), President Trump warned Hamas that it must agree to his peace framework by Sunday at 22:00 GMT (6:00 p.m. Washington time).
The plan proposes an immediate ceasefire, the release of 20 Israeli hostages currently held by Hamas, and the handover of the bodies of hostages presumed dead within 72 hours. In exchange, Israel is expected to release hundreds of Palestinian detainees from its custody.
Trump further warned that failure to comply would result in “severe measures” against Hamas.
However, reports indicate that Hamas has not yet agreed to two key provisions of Trump’s proposal: to disarm completely and to relinquish control of Gaza.
