The Department of Meteorology has forecast that a few showers may occur today (01) in the Western and Sabaragamuwa Provinces, as well as in the Galle, Matara, Kandy, and Nuwara Eliya districts.
It further stated that mainly fair weather conditions will prevail across most other areas of the island.
Strong winds of about 30–40 km/h are expected at times over the western slopes of the central hills, and in the Northern, North-Central, North-Western, and Central Provinces, as well as in the Trincomalee and Hambantota districts.
Meanwhile, a few showers may occur in the sea areas off the coast extending from Colombo to Matara via Galle. Winds will blow from the south-westerly direction, with speeds of 30–40 km/h.
The wind speed may increase up to 50–55 km/h at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota, and from Puttalam to Kankesanthurai via Mannar. In the sea areas off the coast from Kankesanthurai to Trincomalee, wind speeds may reach around 50 km/h at times.
As a result, the sea areas from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota, and from Puttalam to Kankesanthurai via Mannar, may become rough at times, while the sea areas from Kankesanthurai to Trincomalee may be fairly rough.
