Two Sons of Deceased Suspect Arrested in Tangalle Drug Bust

Published:

Police say they have arrested the two sons of the man who died after being hospitalized from a house in Seenimodara, Tangalle, where three lorries loaded with narcotics were discovered.

The seized drug haul, valued at approximately Rs. 9,888 million, included 705.91 kilograms of narcotics — comprising 284.94 kg of heroin and 420.976 kg of crystal methamphetamine (ice).

Investigations have revealed that the massive stock belonged to “Unakooruwe Shanta,” a notorious drug trafficker operating from abroad. The man who died after hospitalization has now been identified as Unakooruwe Thusitha, said to be managing Shanta’s drug operations inside Sri Lanka.

Police further disclosed that the three men who mysteriously died in connection with this incident were directly involved in the drug trafficking network.

So far, six suspects have been taken into custody, including Thusitha’s two sons, the registered owners of the three lorries, and a driver.

The suspects are to be produced before the Tangalle Magistrate’s Court today (23). The Tangalle Police, together with the Police Narcotics Bureau, are conducting further investigations.
