The Department of Meteorology has issued a warning of rough to very rough sea conditions along several coastal stretches from Galle to Matara and Potuvil, including the waters off Hambantota. Wind speeds in these areas are expected to reach 55–60 km/h at times, with sea waves potentially rising to 2.5–3.0 meters.
Similarly, along the coast from Halawatha to Mannar via Kankasanturai, winds may reach 50–60 km/h, occasionally causing rough sea conditions.
The Department has noted a risk of waves reaching the shoreline in the affected areas, posing hazards to local communities, fishing activities, and maritime operations.
Fishermen and seafarers are urged to exercise caution and pay close attention to updates from the Meteorology Department.
