The Supreme Court has sentenced Immigration and Emigration Controller Harsha Ilukpitiya to two years’ imprisonment.
He was found guilty of contempt of court, following charges filed against him for actions deemed to have insulted the judiciary.
The verdict was delivered by Supreme Court Justice Yasanta Kodagoda, with the concurrence of Justices Janak de Silva and Arjuna Obeyesekere.
In announcing the ruling, Justice Kodagoda stated that Harsha Ilukpitiya’s conduct amounted to a grave contempt of court.
