The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) has announced that all employee leave has been cancelled with immediate effect until further notice. The directive was issued in writing by the General Manager of the CEB.
This decision follows the issuance of a special Gazette notification on September 21, declaring all services related to electricity supply as essential services under a presidential order.
President Anura Kumara Dissanayake signed the Gazette in accordance with powers vested in him under Section 2 of the Essential Public Services Act, No. 61 of 1979.
The government stated that the move was necessary to ensure the uninterrupted continuation of services considered vital for maintaining normal public life and to prevent any disruption or obstruction to electricity supply.
