The Department of Meteorology has announced that the prevailing rainy and windy conditions in the southwestern parts of the island are expected to continue in the coming days.
According to the forecast, showers can be expected at times in the Western and Sabaragamuwa Provinces, as well as in the districts of Galle, Matara, Kandy, and Nuwara Eliya. In some locations, heavy showers of around 75 mm may occur.
The Department further noted that several spells of showers are also likely in the Northern and North-Western Provinces.
In addition, showers or thundershowers may develop in a few places in the Uva Province and in the Ampara and Batticaloa districts after around 2.00 p.m.
Strong winds with speeds of 30–40 km/h are expected at times in the western slopes of the Central Hills, as well as in the Central, North-Central, and North-Western Provinces, and in the Trincomalee and Hambantota districts.
The public has been advised to take necessary precautions to minimize risks from lightning strikes, temporary strong winds, and other hazards that may occur during thundershowers.
