The United National Party (UNP) held its 79th anniversary convention in Colombo this morning (20) under the leadership of party leader and former President Ranil Wickremesinghe.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Wickremesinghe emphasized the need for all parties to come together to resist attempts to silence the opposition and establish authoritarian rule.
“We must unite to defeat the drive toward authoritarianism,” the former President declared.
He further proposed that all parties collectively organize 1,000 public meetings across the country as part of this campaign.
