The election to appoint the next Diyawadana Nilame of the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic in Kandy will be held on November 7 or on a date close to it, according to Commissioner General of Buddhist Affairs Gamini Senarathne.
The term of office of the incumbent Diyawadana Nilame ended on September 7 this year. He was first elected to the post in 2005.
The tenure of a Diyawadana Nilame is ten years. After his initial election in 2005, the incumbent was re-elected for a second term through a vote.
