Court Orders Release of Gold Belonging to ‘Midigama Ruwan’ to CID

Published:

Colombo Fort Magistrate Isuru Nettikumara today (18) ordered that gold items valued at over 11 million rupees, seized from Jayasekara Withanage Ruwan Chamara—also known as Midigama Ruwan—be released to the Illegal Assets Investigation Division of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for further inquiries.

Ruwan, alleged to be both a leader of an organized criminal gang and linked to an international drug trafficking network, was found in possession of these gold items, which had been taken into custody by the CID.

The CID informed the court that the Illegal Assets Investigation Division has launched a fresh investigation into the manner in which the gold had been acquired.

Meanwhile, while being held under CID custody, Ruwan was also accused of conspiring with underworld figures—Vickramaratne Nadun Chinthaka, also known as Harak Kata, and Salidu Malshika Gunaratne, also known as Kudu Salidu—to plan an escape from CID detention.
