UNP Lifts Bans on Members Who Joined SJB

Published:

The Working Committee of the United National Party (UNP), which met yesterday evening (16), has decided to lift all disciplinary bans imposed on UNP members who had their party membership suspended after joining the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB).

It has also been decided to appoint a committee headed by former Attorney General and President’s Counsel Tilak Marapana to study the possible legal implications of implementing this decision.

Commenting on the development, UNP Chairman Vajira Abeywardena stated that the move removes obstacles previously preventing those members from rejoining the UNP and working in collaboration with the party.

The Working Committee meeting was held at the UNP headquarters, Sirikotha, in Pitakotte, under the leadership of party leader and former President Ranil Wickremesinghe.
