The renovation project of the Maradana Railway Station was officially launched this morning (15) under the patronage of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, as part of the Dream Destination program conducted in parallel with the Clean Sri Lanka initiative.

Implemented under the Ministry of Transport, Highways, Ports and Civil Aviation together with the Clean Sri Lanka program, this national project aims to renovate 100 railway stations across the island through a public-private partnership.

The objective of the initiative is to establish a modern railway station network that is clean, attractive, and safe, ensuring comfort for all passengers, including those with special needs.

Marking the commencement of the project, President Dissanayake unveiled a commemorative plaque and undertook an observation tour of the Maradana Railway Station, inspecting several key locations including the station’s administrative building.

In addition, the new Sinhala computer font “Ruhunu Kumari”, specially developed for the Railway Department, was officially introduced at the ceremony.
