Former Director General of the Urban Development Authority (UDA), Sumedha Ratnayake, and former Director of Lands and Chairman of the Internal Valuation Committee, Weerawansa Perera, who were taken into custody by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption, have been released on bail.
Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanka S. Bodaragama ordered that both officials be released on a cash bail of Rs. 250,000 each, with a surety bond of Rs. 2.5 million. The court further ordered a travel ban against the two accused.
The arrests were made in connection with allegations that the UDA suffered a financial loss of Rs. 216.66 million during the temporary leasing of a 55.5-perch land plot in Mayura Place, Colombo 5.
