The owner of the bus involved in the recent accident along the Ella–Wellawaya main road has been taken into custody by Ella Police for failing to maintain the vehicle in proper condition.
According to officials of the Department of Motor Traffic, a technical inspection revealed that the bus’s rear right-side brake had been non-functional at the time of the accident.
The bus, which had been transporting a group of passengers from Tangalle on a leisure trip, veered off the road and plunged into a precipice near the 24th-kilometer post on the Ella–Wellawaya main road on the 4th of this month. The tragic incident claimed the lives of 15 people.
