U.S. President Donald Trump has issued a warning that Venezuelan military jets could be shot down if they pose a threat to American naval vessels.
Trump stated that if Venezuelan aircraft fly dangerously close to U.S. warships, creating the risk of an accident, such aircraft would be brought down.
This warning comes after Venezuelan military jets reportedly flew near a U.S. Navy vessel off the coast of South America for the second time within two days.
The U.S. President also accused Venezuela of being a hub for drug trafficking and claimed that members of the “Tren de Aragua” gang—designated by the United States as a terrorist organization—are operating within the country.
In response, the U.S. military has deployed additional naval ships, Marines, and sailors to strengthen its presence, while further enhancing its military capabilities in the southern Caribbean region to counter drug trafficking and security threats.
