The Geological Survey and Mines Bureau (GSMB) announced that mineral transportation activities will be suspended during specific hours on school days.
Accordingly, the suspension will be in effect from 6:30 a.m. to 7:45 a.m. and again from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., to avoid risks during student travel times.
GSMB Director General Deepani Weerakoon stated that the decision was taken following discussions held after a recent accident involving a sand tipper truck and a school van.
She further noted that vehicles transporting minerals during these hours must be parked at suitable locations along their routes.
Weerakoon added that circulars informing of this directive were issued to Divisional Secretariats across the island starting from the 4th of this month.
