Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba has decided to resign from his position.
According to foreign media reports, Ishiba stepped down in an effort to prevent further divisions within the ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP).
He assumed office as Prime Minister in October last year, having been elected with a majority within the party’s upper leadership.
