Published:

The first seed coconut production unit in the Northern Province was inaugurated this morning (02) in Pallei, under the patronage of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, as part of the Northern Coconut Triangle Project.

The initiative is being implemented as a collaborative program between the Coconut Research Institute of Sri Lanka and the Chilaw Plantations Company.

The government has identified Jaffna, Mullaitivu, and Mannar districts as the “Northern Coconut Triangle” for development and promotion.

Under this project, 16,000 acres of coconut cultivation are expected to be established in the Northern Province in 2025, with plans to expand the extent to 40,000 acres within three years, from 2025 to 2027.

To mark the commencement of operations of the production unit, President Dissanayake ceremonially planted a seed coconut sapling.
