The Colombo Magistrate’s Court was informed that indictments have been filed before the Colombo High Court against former Minister of Mineral Resources Anura Priyadarshana Yapa, his wife, and several other defendants.
According to police submissions, the case relates to allegations of misusing state funds exceeding Rs. 6.1 million in December 2014. The funds, which belonged to a state-owned petroleum institution, were allegedly misappropriated under the pretext of providing flood relief.
When the complaint was taken up before Colombo Additional Magistrate Liyan Warushavithana, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) notified the court that indictments had already been filed in the High Court against the accused.
Accordingly, the Magistrate ordered the termination of proceedings before the Magistrate’s Court, directing the defendants to appear before the Colombo High Court when summoned.
