The government has decided to raise the Special Commodity Levy (SCL) imposed on imported Bombay onions and potatoes, effective from yesterday (26).
A Gazette notification regarding the revision was issued by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake in his capacity as Minister of Finance, Economic Stabilization, and National Policies.
Accordingly, the SCL on imported potatoes has been increased from Rs. 60 to Rs. 80 per kilogram. The levy on imported Bombay onions has been raised by Rs. 40, from Rs. 10 to Rs. 50 per kilogram.
The Ministry of Finance announced that the revised tax will remain in effect for a period of three months starting from yesterday.
