A pre-budget discussion for 2026 was held yesterday (26) at the Presidential Secretariat under the patronage of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, with the participation of private sector exporters and agribusiness representatives. The meeting focused on identifying issues in the export sector and seeking proposals to address them.
President Dissanayake said the main aim of the discussion was to gather ideas from business leaders and industrialists to strengthen the country’s dollar reserves, which are vital for stabilizing the national economy.
He emphasized that while the government is responsible for providing necessary facilities to exporters and entrepreneurs, businesses in turn must ensure fair tax contributions.
The President further noted that the economy cannot be restricted or slowed down, and stressed that the government is committed to reviving and expanding the economy.
Highlighting current policy measures, he explained that while import restrictions are being eased, steps are being taken to increase export income in order to maintain stable foreign reserves. He added that the government has already prepared a concrete program to achieve this goal.
