Police stated that a shooting incident occurred last night (25) in the Weralapara area of Matara, where an individual arriving in a motor vehicle opened fire at a restaurant owner before fleeing the scene.
No injuries were reported in the incident, and according to police, a pistol had been used in the shooting.
The restaurant owner, who was the target of the attack, had engaged in a scuffle with the gunman, following which the suspect managed to escape.
At the scene of the incident, police recovered a firearm, four live bullets, and an empty cartridge case.
The motive for the shooting has not yet been established, and no information regarding the suspect has been revealed so far. Matara Police have launched further investigations.
