Former State Minister Shasheendra Rajapaksa Remanded Until 29th

The Colombo Magistrate’s Court today ordered that former State Minister Shasheendra Rajapaksa remain in custody until 29th of this month.

Following submissions made by officials of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) and legal representatives from the Attorney General’s Department, Chief Magistrate of Colombo, Asanka Bodiragama, issued the remand order.

The former minister was taken into custody by CIABOC on charges of “corruption” under the Bribery Act. The allegations relate to the unlawful acquisition of Rs. 8,850,000 through the destruction of his political office, which had been set on fire by protesters at Mahaweli premises.
