The Department of Meteorology states that favorable atmospheric conditions are developing for evening thunderstorms in the Northern, North Central, Central, Uva and Eastern provinces over the next few days.
The statement states that showers or thundershowers may occur at isolated places in the Northern, North-Central, Central, Uva and Eastern provinces and in the Hambantota district after around 1.00 p.m.
Some places in these areas may experience fairly heavy showers exceeding 50 mm, while light showers may occur in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and the Galle and Matara districts.
The department urges the public to take necessary steps to minimize the dangers caused by temporary strong winds and lightning that may occur with thunderstorms.
