The striking postal trade unions have begun a satyagraha in front of the Central Postal Exchange in Colombo.
It is reported that representatives of several trade unions, including the Ceylon Teachers’ Union and the Workers’ Struggle Center, are also participating.
It is stated that special police security has been deployed around the Central Post Office due to the satyagraha that began this morning (22).
The strike that the postal trade unions began at midnight on the 17th, based on 19 main demands, is continuing for the 5th day today.
Meanwhile, Postmaster General Ruwan Sathkumara had issued a statement stating that all postal employees who do not report to work today will be treated as if they have left their posts.
The Postmaster General also stated that since the leave of all postal employees will be cancelled from the 17th, it has been decided not to pay salaries this month to postal employees who do not report to work without formal leave approval.
Accordingly, the Postmaster General requests all postal workers on strike to report to work immediately if they require their monthly salary.
