Former State Minister Lohan Ratwatte’s funeral tomorrow

The funeral of the late former State Minister Lohan Ratwatte is scheduled to be held tomorrow at the family cemetery in Nittawela – Mahaiyawa, Kandy.

He passed away yesterday afternoon while receiving treatment at a private hospital in Colombo. He was 57 years old at the time of his death.

Born on June 22, 1968, Lohan Ratwatte is the eldest son of General Anuruddha Ratwatte, a former Deputy Minister of Defense in the Chandrika Bandaranaike government.

He was first elected to the Central Provincial Council in 2009 and was elected to Parliament in 2010 as a Sri Lanka Freedom Party member of parliament.

In 2012, he was appointed as the Pathadumbara Sri Lanka Freedom Party Organizer and later held the position of Deputy Minister of Road Development.

He was re-elected to Parliament in the 2015 and 2020 parliamentary elections.

Later, during the Gotabaya Rajapaksa administration in 2019, he held the positions of State Minister for Prison Reforms, Prisoner Rehabilitation, and Gem and Jewelry-Related Industries.

Subsequently, during the Ranil Wickremesinghe administration, on January 29, 2024, he was appointed State Minister of Plantation Industries and Mahaweli Development.
