Today marks 79 years since India gained independence.
The commemoration ceremony was held at the Red Fort in New Delhi, under the patronage of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
At the event, military officers who contributed to Operation Sindoor were appreciated and several of those who contributed to the operation were inducted into the annual military honor rolls.
With the passage of the Indian Independence Act of 1947, ending years of political struggle, they were able to gain independence from British rule.
India, which was under British rule, was divided into two countries, India and Pakistan, effective from the midnight of August 14-15, 1947.
India celebrates Independence Day on August 15th, while Pakistan celebrates it on August 14th.
