6.8 million WhatsApp accounts removed

Published:

Meta says it has removed 6.8 million WhatsApp accounts that were used to commit various scams targeting individuals around the world in the first half of this year.

Meta reportedly made this decision as WhatsApp introduced new anti-fraud measures.

Among those measures, WhatsApp has specifically alerted users to potential fraudulent activity when adding a user to a Group Chat who is not in their contact list.

It also aims to crack down on common fraudulent activities, such as criminals hijacking WhatsApp accounts or adding users to group chats that promote fake investment schemes and other scams.
