The government will begin purchasing the paddy harvest for this year’s Yala season today (the 3rd).
Accordingly, paddy will be purchased under the first phase in the Ampara, Mullaitivu and Batticaloa districts, where harvesting has already commenced.
An amount of Rs. 6 billion has been allocated from the budget for this.
Cabinet Media Spokesperson and Minister of Health and Mass Media Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa stated that farmers will be given a guaranteed price of Rs. 120 per kilogram of Nadu paddy, Rs. 125 per kilogram of Samba paddy, and Rs. 132 for Keeri Samba paddy.
