Child’s skeletal remains found in Chemmani mass grave

The skeletal remains of a small child and a school bag were found yesterday (29) in the Chemmani mass grave.

During that excavation, 6 human skeletons were found that day, bringing the total number of human skeletons found to date to 33.

This mass grave is located near the Sitthupattu Cemetery in Chemmani, Jaffna, and the third phase of excavations began on June (26) under the orders of the Jaffna Magistrate’s Court.

On the second and third days of the excavations, several bone fragments suspected to be those of a woman were discovered, and several bone fragments suspected to be those of a small child were also found near the woman’s chest area.

The North-East Missing Persons Association stated that they are paying special attention to this matter.

It is also reported that a bag suspected to be a school bag has been recovered from this location.

The North-Eastern Missing Persons Association also states that if there is anything in the school bag, it can be concluded from what period these skeletal remains belong to.
