Sri Lanka Police issues warning about crimes committed through Social Media

The Sri Lanka Police state that recent investigations conducted by the Criminal Investigation Department have observed a rapid increase in the number of citizens of this country becoming victims of crimes committed using social media such as Facebook, Whatsapp, Telegram, Skype, WeChat, etc.

Therefore, the police have issued a statement requesting that you not follow advertisements posted through through all electronic and printed media and social networks such as Facebook, Whatsapp, Telegram, Skype, We chat accounts appearing in the names of various individuals, links provided to access various websites, and access unknown social media groups and instructions provided through them.

The police also request that you not provide your personal bank account details to unknown parties, and that you not transfer money received from unknown individuals to other accounts provided by them on the instructions of third parties.
