Indictments against 12 including Keheliya

The Attorney General has filed indictments before a three-judge bench of the Colombo High Court against twelve defendants, including former Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella, in connection with the incident of purchasing substandard antibody vaccines.

The Attorney General had previously submitted a request to the Chief Justice to designate a three-member High Court bench to hear this case, considering it a case of public importance.

Accordingly, the Chief Justice has named a three-member High Court bench consisting of High Court Judges Mahesh Weeraman, Pradeep Abeyratne and Amali Ranaweera to hear this case.

The Attorney General has presented these indictments against the defendants before the bench of judges.

The Attorney General has brought 13 charges against the defendants, including former Minister Keheliya Rambukwella, regarding the criminal misuse of that money and conspiracy to fraudulently embezzle Rs. 1,444,000 of the Republic of Sri Lankan funds by supplying 6,195 vials of Human Immunoglobulin and other non-medicinal substances called Ritopsimap to the Medical Supplies Division of the Ministry of Health.

The prosecution has presented nearly 350 individuals and nearly 300 exhibits as witnesses in this case.
