The Bar Association of Sri Lanka has sent a letter to President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
Informing that necessary legal action will be taken regarding the incident of releasing a prisoner from Anuradhapura Prison using the presidential amnesty illegally.
Accordingly, the Bar Association of Sri Lanka has submitted two requests to the President.
- Conduct a full and impartial investigation into the incident, identify all responsible parties, and take necessary disciplinary or legal action against the perpetrators.
- Strengthening transparency and accountability in the operations of the Prisons Department, focusing on institutional reforms.
It also states that the Bar Association is ready to provide full support to the President, the Ministry of Justice and other relevant authorities in pursuing legal proceedings.
The letter also states that the Bar Association of Sri Lanka is committed to protecting the rule of law and ensuring that the justice system serves the people with integrity and fairness.
