The Department of Meteorology states that occasional showers are possible in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts today (13).
There may also be several spells of rain in the Northwestern Province.
It is stated that heavy rains exceeding 50 mm may occur in some places in the Sabaragamuwa Province and the Nuwara Eliya and Kandy districts.
Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in the Uva Province and Ampara and Batticaloa Districts after about 2.00 p.m.
The statement further states that strong winds of about 40-50 kmph are likely to occur at times in the western slopes of the Central Hills, the Northern, North-Central, North-Western and Southern provinces and the Trincomalee District.
The department urges the public to take necessary steps to minimize the dangers caused by temporary strong winds and lightning that may occur with thunderstorms.
