Retired Senior DIG Priyantha Jayakody, who was remanded in custody, has been granted bail by the Mahara Magistrate’s Court.
Regarding an allegation of making a false complaint that an organized criminal had made a death threat Priyantha Jayakody was arrested by officers of the Criminal Investigation Department on July 28th while receiving treatment at a private hospital in the Ragama area.
Accordingly, the Mahara Magistrate, who visited the relevant hospital, ordered the suspect to be remanded until yesterday (06).
Retired Senior DIG Priyantha Jayakody had filed a complaint with the police alleging that Kehelbaddara Padme, a powerful organized criminal based in a foreign country, had threatened to kill him.
Based on the complaint, Criminal Investigation Department officers began investigations and it was revealed that the complaint was false.
